So, as we are getting closer to the end of our degrees, I keep thinking about being finished: the good things and the things I'll miss.
Here's what I've come up with:
Things I'm looking forward to:
More free time! No more assignments or tests! I know having a career isn't easy either, but 9am-5pm (work) beats 9am-9pm (classes+homework) for me!
Making more money, even if it's only that we'll be able to devote more hours per week to work.
Implementing the skills we've learnt through our degrees, using our knowledge and learning a practical application for some of the things we weren't so enthusiastic about learning (statistics for me).
New challenges: None of us know exactly what our graduation will bring, but to me, that's the best part. Many of us went directly from grade school into university and can hardly remember a time when we were not studying (aside from summer holidays).
Things I'll miss the most:
I really do like going to lectures. Yes, I know, they're not always exciting. But I find it a really easy way to learn lots of interesting things. It may sound odd, but I'll miss doing that every day (even if I don't miss the work)
Not being able to wear comfortable clothes everywhere.
Having to take yourself more seriously.
Having a set schedule (hopefully all our employers are flexible)
I'm so going to miss the tomato & cheese pies from Pita on the Run in Mac Hall. If you haven't tried them, it's not too late! I like them with lots of lemon juice. It'll be hard for me to leave those behind...
Giving up our student discounts & U-Pass.
Take a moment to think about what you love about university, and the things you're going to love as you go forward. Only a few weeks left! Remember, change is good!
