Talk about timing. As you get ready to finish up school and get out there in the real world, the provincial government has a little graduation present for you.
As of January 1, 2009, Albertans no longer have to pay Alberta Health Care insurance premiums. That’s the insurance that covers the cost when you visit the doctor.
If you’re from Alberta, you’ve likely been covered by your parent’s plan while you’ve been at school (and under the age of 25). If you’re from another province, you’ve been covered by your home province or territory’s insurance plan.
With this change, that’s $44 a month you don’t have to spend on Alberta Health Care premiums upon graduating.
But you still may want to make sure you’re covered with supplementary insurance for vision care, dental care, prescription drugs, and unexpected medical expenses like ambulances.
Here’s where the other good news comes in. The University of Calgary Alumni Association has partnered with Canada Life to provide preferred rates for health, dental and life insurance. And, as U of C alumni you are also entitled to preferred group rates for home and automobile insurance with TD Insurance Meloche Monnex.
